The Battle of the Somme 1916 [12A]

This special showing of the 1916 film The Battle of the Somme is part of local commemorations of the WWW1 centenary. The film includes documentary footage filmed during the months of the battle, with some re-constructed scenes. It was shown to packed audiences in cinemas in 1916, and it’s hard to imagine what it must have been like to watch, 100 years ago. The film (originally silent) is accompanied by beautiful and haunting music composed by Laura Rossi.
